Showing Promise In Spain

Posted: 30th March 2009

Well my month off was spent practising hard at Queenwood in some lovely Spring weather, after having spent a week commentating on the World Matchplay over in Phoenix. My good friend Squirrel won that week, another resident of Virginia Water. Well to be fair Geoff Ogilvy won but Squirrel caddies for him and he tells me he was kind enough to give Geoff 90% of the winnings which was very generous of him I reckon.

Commentating was a great experience but one I would rather not do too often at this stage of my career so don't panic I fully intend to have the commentators talking about me and not the other way round from now on.

So to Seville and the Open de Andalucia hosted by Miguel Angel Jimenez on the fantastic Real Club de Golf de Sevilla. A wonderful course in great condition on the outskirts of a nice city, it does not get much better than this on the European tour. If there was a disappointment I would have to say it was the meagre crowds all week that left the tournament struggling for atmosphere. Still I had rent a crowd with me as my Father walked all four rounds and Jason and Rachel my newest supporters were there all the way to watch me finish 41st.

Mind you it was not a boring week golf wise, a shank and a double hit and 5 three putts were the reason I did not have my first decent finish of the year but my long game was showing some really good signs and for once I really enjoyed my golf this week. It is always disappointing not to finish in the mix but my confidence has been enhanced this week.

Soren Kjeldsen ran out the winner in the end after a brilliant 62 on Saturday and he will head into his first Masters on a real high. I head onto Lisbon today for the Portuguese Open where I lost in a play off last year.and I'm really looking forward to playing there again. Thanks for reading and I will speak to you next week. Cheers, David.
